The Latte Gambit — our laid-back, coffee-fueled amateur chess tournament where the only thing hotter than the competition is the coffee! ☕

Enjoy a relaxed, friendly atmosphere — no grandmasters here, just good games, great vibes, and fellow chess lovers. From casual play to creative chaos, it's all about fun, laughter, and community… though I’m sure a few of you are low-key gladiators. 😄

⚡ Heads-up: This tournament is unrated and of an extremely casual nature — the only thing being strictly measured is how many pastries you can eat before your first game! 🥐

Here’s everything you need to know:

🏅 Prizes? Bragging rights, and some gas money:

• 1st Place: 25,000 HUF
• 2nd Place: 15,000 HUF
• 3rd Place: KnightFall Gift Pack 🎁

📆 Date & Schedule:

• Date: Sunday, 18th January
• On-site registration: 10:00 – 11:00 AM (only if spots are available)
• Check-in: 11:00 – 11:20 AM
• Event Opener: 11:20 – 11:30 AM
• Start of first round: 11:30 AM

♟️ Tournament Format:

• Rolling Swiss Pairing System (7 rounds)
• Hybrid Time Control:
  • Rounds 1–3: 10 minutes, no increment
  • Rounds 4–7: 5 minutes + 3 sec increment

📐 Tie-breaks: Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz Total

🔍 Eligibility:

• Max FIDE rating: 1700 (rapid, blitz, or classical)
  • Chess.com or Lichess ratings are not considered
• Players aged 18+ only
• No rating? No problem — you’re absolutely welcome (and secretly you are our favorite). 😎♟️

🎯 Participant cap:

• Only 80 spots available – this tournament could fill up fast, so don’t wait! Make sure to grab your ticket and lock in your spot early!

💸 Entry Fee:

• Online: 5500 HUF
• On-site: 6500 HUF (only if spots are available)

The entry fee covers organizing costs, prizes, and promotion — guaranteeing a day full of excitement, good vibes, and friendly competition. 💥

The entry fee is not consumable at the bar, but we will have some welcome pastries to boost your brainpower before the games. 🥐♟️
